Adventuring Friends & Beta Sites!
Links!
How many people have you met that onsight 5.12 (either trad or sport!), confidently nail A4, have a PhD
in Math, and are still good husbands and fathers?  Bryan Bornholdt is one of my personal hero's and
has consistently been my go-to partner over the years when I want to go get a rowdy adventure done
(although I freely admit that climbing with Bryan is cheating!!!!).  I've never tied in with anyone else who
plays at as high a level on any type of terrain (free, aid, or whatever!!!)!  Here's his math education,
juggling, and adventuring site!
Jared Campbell(aka "The King") is one of those unique adventurers who's an excellent engineer, an
outstanding ultra-runner,  an amazing soloist (on our dawn patrols I can't even come close to keeping
up in my rock shoes while he's in approach shoes...just sick!), and an all around gleeful adventurer
(who else is psyched to "climb" Astroman in a weekend from Salt Lake!)! Additionally, Jared displays
a uniquely twisted sense of humor (
he has a serious case of ovine lust!!!) which is always a desirable
quality in a partner! Jared also provided an immense amount of Beta for the creation of
DesertRatsAnonymous for which I'm extremely grateful!  If you want to see what's behind Door # 5
take a peek!
Looking for Beta on some obscure route or just looking for some interesting
distractions?...here's a few of the places we regularly visit online!  Enjoy!
If you don't know about Chris McNamara's site you should!
Want beta for hiking cool Canyon's?....Tom Jone's Canyoneering page is the best online source
we've found!
Wanna see something truly sic?  The guru of "Naked Free Soloing" and the "Mojo Club"
himself...Michael Reardon.
The Mountain Project combined several useful sites that had a ton of Beta for routes all over
the place!
Think your fast?...here's a link to Bill Wrights Speed Climbing Page & Han's book!
Summitpost.org
Want beta for a route in the mountains....chances are you can find it here!
Since before we were married, the Randolph's have been some of our best friends from the
Springs.  Jason's always been down for an adventure, whether in the desert or the
mountains...even if it means wading through Denver traffic on a Friday afternoon and then getting
up at 2 am to go shiver on some cold peak!  At work, Jason's still one of the best astrodynamicists
I've met.  Additionally, Jason and Annie have provided a wonderful example through the years that
it is possible to juggle being parents, having careers, and still manage to get out and do cool
adventures!  I've often thought that you can gauge how good a friend someone truly is by whether
they bother to keep in touch after you no longer live in the same town as them...Jason and Annie
still keep in touch and we get together even if it's just for dinner or a couple of pitches as often as
possible!
NA Classics is another site out there with a ton of beta for high quality routes around the US, the
emphasis here is on the most classic adventure routes out there!
Desert Tower Climbing in the Mainstream News Media?...here's a link to the Standard Examiner's April
2006 article on Tower Climbing!  Even though there were some minor mis-statements, I actually
thought they did a good job of portraying what makes climbing in the desert soooooo special!
