Family trip to Yosemite, May 5-14 2006:
Canyon had not yet met his grandpa and neither Shannon nor Canyon had ever been to
Yosemite so we jumped at the chance to go spend a week in the Valley and see Grandpa! Canyon
immediately hit it off with Grandpa and Jennifer! It was a pretty mellow trip...we'd crag, boulder, or hike a
little in the morning till the little wild man needed his nap and then after his nap we'd go crag, boulder, or
hike a little more! I made gleeful use of the valley's soloing circuit, enjoying After Six and the Royal
Arches (a bit interesting when it has a water-fall running down it!). Additionally, Bryan and I did a
reconnaissance to assess if two weekenders can get up the Nose in a day! We concluded that although
we'll need to fine tune our "thin-old-school" granite technique and our "mostly-free speed ascent" tactics
a bit that it's doable....at the very least we enjoyed a few hours basking in the moonlight on sickle ledge
before heading down in the morning!
